Terms of Service

Effective October 12, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of cottlabs.com and the services provided by CottLabs LLC, a Maine limited liability company (“CottLabs,” “we,” “us”), operated by Charlie Cott and based in Maine, United States. By using our website or engaging our services, you agree to these Terms.

Our services

CottLabs designs and builds websites, AI automation, and custom software. The specific scope, deliverables, price, and timeline for any project are agreed between you and us before work begins. Nothing on this website is a binding offer until we’ve confirmed the details of your project in writing.

Demo-first and payment

  • Website builds are quoted per project. We design and build a real version of your site for you to review, and you are under no obligation to buy until you approve it.
  • Monthly plans (hosting, security, updates and Cipher) are billed monthly, are month-to-month, and can be cancelled at any time. Current plans are Apprentice ($50/mo), Journeyman ($100/mo) and Master ($200/mo).
  • Billing and renewal. We invoice for each month at the start of it. We do not store your card and nothing renews silently — if a plan is going to bill you, you will have agreed to it in writing first.
  • Cancelling. Tell us in writing and the plan stops at the end of the month you have already paid for. No notice period, no cancellation fee, no minimum term. We do not pro-rate part-months in either direction.
  • Fees, once due, are payable per the terms of your project agreement — the proposal you accept in writing and the short agreement that comes with it.

Automation services

Every monthly plan includes Cipher, which drafts replies, follow-ups and invoice reminders for your approval and answers visitors on your website’s chat only from facts you approve. It is priced per business, with no per-user fees, and is never switched on without your written go-ahead.

Ownership of your work

Once your project is fully paid for, you own the website or software we built for you. You are responsible for the content you provide to us and confirm you have the rights to use it.

Domains. Where we register a domain for you, our policy is that you are the owner. If we register or renew one on your behalf it sits in our registrar account only until your project is paid for, and is then transferred into your name at no charge. We manage domains; we do not hold them. A domain you own can be moved away from us at any time without asking permission.

Your own material — your logo, your photographs, your existing copy — stays yours throughout. We use it with your permission and claim no ownership of it.

Your customers’ information

If we run software that captures enquiries for you — a form, a chat widget, a phone or text integration — the resulting information about your customers belongs to you, not to us. We process it solely to provide the service you asked for. We do not sell it, use it to advertise, or show it to any other customer, and you can ask for a full export or a deletion at any time. How we handle it is set out in our Privacy Policy.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use our website or services for any unlawful purpose, to infringe others’ rights, or to interfere with or disrupt our systems. We may suspend or end access to anyone who misuses our services.

Text messaging

If you provide your mobile number and opt in, you consent to receive text messages from CottLabs related to your inquiry or project. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your information.

Our relationship

CottLabs is an independent contractor. When we describe CottLabs, or the software we run for you, as your “business partner,” we mean how we work alongside you. Nothing in these Terms or any project agreement creates a partnership, joint venture, agency, franchise, or employment relationship, and neither of us can bind the other.

Disclaimers

Our website and services are provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties not expressly stated in a signed project agreement, including implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, CottLabs will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of our website or services. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us for the specific service giving rise to the claim.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the effective date above. Continued use of our website or services after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
